Hungarian invention Teqball was presented at this year’s World Intellectual Property Day campaign to showcase the role that IP rights play in the world of sports. The inventors have consciously utilized the intellectual property toolset to safeguard their invention and obtain a favourable market position.

The Permanent Mission of Hungary and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) jointly organized a Teqball demonstration on World IP Day on 26th April 2019. The WIPO has decided to dedicate this year’s World Intellectual Property Day campaign – Reach for Gold – to the role that IP rights play in the world of sports. Demonstrating how sports and innovations go hand in hand in Hungary, the participants had the chance to become acquainted with Teqball, a Hungarian sport invention.

On behalf of WIPO, Ms. Linda Lloyd Da Silva, Director of Communications Division, welcomed the assembled members of diplomatic corps, the WIPO staff, the press, Hungarians in Geneva and other invitees.

H.E. Ms. Zsuzsanna Horváth, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the UN and other International Organisations in Geneva, in her opening speech drew attention to Hungary’s excellent sports results and famous inventors. She pointed out that the Teqball table represented both sports and innovations, the relevance of IP rights in the world of sports.

On behalf of Teqball, Mr. Gergely Murányi, Head of Diplomatic Relations, presented the new sport equipment and the new sport based on football.

The Teqball table was created by 3 Hungarian gentlemen, using the simplest idea of a curved table. The curved surface bounces the ball in an unpredictable way, which provides a novel method for players to develop their technical skills, concentration and stamina. Two excellent Teqball players demonstrated the multifunctional possibilities (football, volleyball, tennis, table tennis) of the table.
