Dear Visitor,

I warmly welcome you to the website of the Permanent Mission of Hungary to the UN Office, the WTO and other International Organizations in Geneva. The primary task of our Mission is to represent Hungary's interests in the international organizations operating in Geneva and to ensure Hungary's participation in the ongoing negotiations.

The achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals set out in the Agenda 2030, which cover many areas of life, can be ensured by the multilateral processes taking place here. There are a number of international organizations in Geneva, perhaps the best known ones are the World Health Organization, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the UN Human Rights Council and the World Trade Organization. Geneva is therefore an ideal place to advance international cooperation and to set directions for action with the involvement of international organizations and NGOs. The work we do here not only seeks to provide answers to the challenges of the present, but is also of paramount importance to future generations.

The headquarters of the World Health Organization (WHO) is located in Geneva. The WHO addresses issues that concern us all, such as international cooperation to curb the coronavirus pandemic in the areas of research and development, equitable international distribution of vaccines, treatments and tests. Our priority is to promote health research, develop responses to health emergencies, and coordinate effective responses to pandemics.

The World Trade Organization (WTO) also operates here. Among other things, the WTO provides a forum for multilateral trade negotiations, a dispute settlement forum for resolving trade disputes between its members, and technical assistance to developing countries. It has a key role to play in the development of the world economy.

The city has traditionally been the center of international negotiations on human rights issues. The UN Human Rights Council meets here. Hungary is an active participant in the work of the most important body of the UN system dealing with the promotion and protection of human rights. Hungary serves as a good example in the field of protection and enforcement of human rights by its constitution, relevant legislation and institutional system.

Geneva is the stronghold of humanitarian and development efforts. Our Mission is actively cooperating with the humanitarian organizations that are located here, such as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Hungary plays an important role in disarmament and arms control negotiations. Hungary previously chaired the meeting of the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BWC) held in Geneva.

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is doing outstanding work in order to promote global cooperation against climate change, and international cooperation in the management of extreme weather events - drought, water shortages, extreme rainfall, storm surges, etc.

As an active participant in multilateral diplomacy, our goal is to make sure that Hungary remains an active stakeholder in the processes taking place in Geneva and is able to participate in answering - beyond regional and European issues - all the global questions that determines our lives and the lives of our children in the 21st century.

I wish you a useful browsing on our website!
