Hungary elected to UN Human Rights Council

The UN General Assembly decided about the new members of the Human Rights Council (HRC) on October 28. Since the announcement of the tender the four years of continuous work resulted that Hungary will became a member of the Eastern European Group (EEG) of the HRC members for the three-year period between 2017-2019. The UN General Assembly decided about the new members of the Human Rights Council (HRC) on October 28. Since the announcement of the tender the four years of continuous work resulted that Hungary will became a member of the Eastern European Group (EEG) of the HRC members for the three-year period between 2017-2019. Croatia and Hungary has been selected in the group ahead of Russia.


The HRC will have 14 new members for the 2017-2019 period: Hungary, Croatia of the EEG, Cuba and Brazil of the Latin American and Caribbean countries election group, South Africa, Rwanda, Egypt and Tunisia of the African countries group, United States and the United Kingdom of the Western European countries election group, China, Japan, Iraq and Saudi Arabia of the Asian and Pacific group.

Hungary has already been member of the Human Rights Council in the period of 2009-2012 and took an active part in discussions.
