H.E. Ms. Ambassador Zsuzsanna Horváth met UN Special Envoy for Road Safety. During the meeting, the Special Envoy commended Hungarian efforts and the relevant Hungarian National Strategy to improve road safety and to reduce road traffic fatalities. Ambassador Horváth welcomed the establishment of the UN Road Safety Trust Fund and underlined that Hungary supports the aims of the Trust Fund.


On 13 May 2019 H.E. Ms. Ambassador Zsuzsanna Horváth, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva met Jean Todt, UN Special Envoy for Road Safety.



Ambassador Horváth welcomed the establishment of the UN Road Safety Trust Fund and highly appreciated the efforts of the UN Special Envoy for saving lives on the roads. She underlined, Hungary supports the aims of the Trust Fund to substantially curb the number of fatalities and injuries from road traffic crashes and to reduce economic losses resulting from these crashes.

She presented the ZalaZone project, which is a unique testing track for conventional, autonomous and electric vehicles. The ambassador underlined the importance of the test field in relation to improve the safety of vehicles and to increase road safety. 

The Special Envoy commended Hungarian efforts to improve road safety and to reduce road traffic fatalities. Mr. Todt welcomed the Hungarian National Road Safety Strategy, which aims to reduce road traffic fatalities by 50% between 2017 and 2020 and congratulated on the 15% decrease in road traffic fatalities between 2010 and 2018. He applauded Hungary for acceding to all six UN Road Safety Conventions.

The Special Envoy acknowledged, as well, that developing self-driving vehicle systems and establishing testing opportunities for classic and automated vehicles contribute to the safety of vehicles and to road safety.
